An Interview about Travel with 7-year-old Natasha
Last week I interviewed Daniel and Janel Haley about life on the road with kids. As an extra, Janel asked 7-year-old Natasha some of these questions as well (slightly altered) about what she likes to do as they travel, and what she looks for in other countries. I loved it!
By the way, Natasha knows more about geography and world history than I do at this point, so a conversation with her is never dull.
Hi, everybody!
Why do you like to travel?
We meet new people, like in New Zealand we met Lily and Hazel at a playground and now we're pen pals! And here in Denmark we have met two girls who are named Maria and Myah.
We go places that are interesting like outdoor obstacle courses, LegoLand, and old castles.
What would you never leave home without? Or things to pack?
Always take something that is really special to you, like your favorite stuffed animal.
The tablet, because I can listen to audio books on it.
Kids Almanac (Note from Mom: This is the one of the two "physical" books we travel with. It's packed full of fun facts, stories and information that takes longer to get through than a typical storybook. The other one being for Lincoln: "My First Spanish Word Book," leftover from when Natasha was a toddler in Panama. For us adults we use a Kindle, and borrow e-books from our local library at home).
Best backpack for kids:
Fjallraven (Note from Mom: This is a Swedish company that makes quality backpacks and we found this particular version to fit 7 yr. old Natasha quite well. It doesn't have such crazy designs as some backpacks tend to have).
What are some of your favorite things to do on a plane?
Watch a movie
Look out the window and search for cloud land.
Play talking games with Mom or Daddy.
What are your favorite apps on the tablet?
Best Podcasts for Kids:
What are some of the best snacks?
cheese and raisins
apple and meat stick (Note from Mom: Every child we've fed these to, loves them. Great source of protein, not messy and superb for traveling when a regular meal schedule is harder to maintain.)
What are some good activities for days at home when we're not site-seeing?
Solitaire, played with real cards
Play with my brother
Drawing
Have a picnic inside
Play pretend airplane
And that wraps it up! If you are so inclined, leave a comment below to say hi to Natasha and recommend a book for her (she's always looking for audio and regular books) and I'll make sure it gets to her. Thanks for joining!
